ADAPT is Seagate’s advanced distributed autonomic protection technology, included across the Exos PROTECT family.
Rather than dedicating whole drives as spares, ADAPT distributes spare capacity across every drive in the pool. When a drive fails, the array rebuilds only the data that was actually written — in parallel, across many drives at once — instead of rewriting an entire replacement disk.
Combined with redundant hot-swappable controllers, drives, fans and power supplies with automatic failover and dual-path support, this is what lets Exos PROTECT nearly eliminate downtime and maximize availability.
Essential software features round out the stack: virtual or linear pools, thin provisioning, SSD read cache, encryption, auto-tiering, Snapshots and asynchronous replication.

Three arrays: Exos PROTECT EP2U12 (2U, 12 drive slots), EP2U24 (2U, 24 small form factor drive slots) and EP5U84 (5U, 84 drive slots). EP2U12 and EP2U24 each connect up to nine expansion enclosures; EP5U84 connects three, for a maximum of 336 drives.
ADAPT is advanced distributed autonomic protection technology, included across the Exos PROTECT family. It distributes spare capacity across every drive in the pool and rebuilds only the data that was actually written, in parallel across many drives — delivering far faster recovery than a conventional dedicated-spare RAID rebuild. Improved ADAPT, NRAID and RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10 are all supported.
